To Celebrate Lancashire Day, Southport Brewery has brewed the once in a year beer 'Clog Hopper'. Lancashire Day is held on 27 November. It commemorates the day in 1295 when Lancashire sent its first representatives to Parliament by King Edward I of England to attend what later became known as The Model Parliament. As its a special edition beer, its only available at a few locations for a short period of time. So time is limited in finding and getting the chance to try this rare Southport Brewery brew.

Old Shrimper makes it long awaited return in casks for on-licence drinking. Old Shrimper is a dark, rich and hearty beer of 5.5% abv brewed annually around Christmas as a winter ale. Check out the usual pubs for places to drink and savour this distinctive beer.

May has been a month when Southport Brewery ales have received further recognition for their quality and flavour. Firstly during May our real ale Sandgrounder has been served to MP's and delegates of Parliament at the House of Commons, Strangers bar. Reports from the 'House' are that the beer has been well received and enjoyed by all, with the order being consumed in record time for a guest ale. Thanks are extended to the MP for Southport John Pugh who requested our ales be made available. John Pugh is a real ale fan and visited the brewery to mark the event.

In addition to this accolade, our Golden Sands ale has been recognised by the Independent Newspaper as one of the best beers in the world. Out of 10 beers reviewed Golden Sands has been given a 'Best Buy' rating for its taste and flavour which is described as being 'packed to its head with pleasant citrus tones'. Many thanks to Mr S Muston for this review.

As the horses are prepared for the start of the 2011 Grand National our ale 'National Hero' is available in several local pubs. This traditional English Ale of 4%, with a fruity bitterness and hoppy character is now under orders. Brewed in honour of the famous horse Red Rum, which won the Grand National 3 times during the 70's. Red Rum was trained locally by 'Ginger' McCain on the Golden Sands of the Southport coastline and his son, Donald McCain now takes up the reins and his entry in this years race is Ballybriggs.

Southport Brewery has brewerd an Ale to commemorate the Royal Wedding taking place in April. Royal Kiss is made fully with English malts and hops to give a full-bodied bitterness, with a hoppy fruit aftertaste. Royal Kiss will be available very soon and is likely to be on sale at the many regional beer festivals taking place over the next few weeks. Best wishes to William and Kate on their unique day.

Southport Brewery will be brewing a new seasonal beer that will be ready for sale and consumption soon. More details to follow.
